It's All About the Socks

It's been over a year since I've written a blog. I have been asked to start it up again, but haven't found anything inspiring to write about. I started the blog when I lived in Chicago, and am currently now in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, where there are no fashion trends to write about. Camo is in right now, it's hunting season. But after I saw this picture I new it was time to write again.

The girl pictured above is my cousin Megan. When I saw this picture I immediately smiled. Argyle is one of my favorite patterns (next to paisley and plaid). Black, white and pink together are always a good chic choice. The addition of a tie to the outfit adds just enough masculinity to a very feminine ensemble. It's a great balance. I did however stop and wonder about the shoes. I have an outfit very similar to this, but wear black Mary Janes instead of tennis shoes. I love that she wore her tennis shoes. It's perfect. Megan is in Junior High. I think it adds enough youth to a "grown up" outfit. It's also a smart choice. My feet always hurt when I wear high heels. When your feet hurt, it takes away from the outfit. You will want to sit more, walk less. You won't walk with as much confidence because all you will be able to think about are your poor hurting feet. You'll miss out on activities with your friends because you didn't decide on a reasonable pair of shoes. And while you're limping around in your high heels all you will be able to think about are your favorite tennies sitting back at home on your bedroom floor, regretting the decision you made to leave them at home. Great ensemble Megan! Thank you for wearing an outfit that inspired me to start blogging again.

Cali Comfort

At a friends house after work one evening I met a guy who was visiting Chicago from California. Everyone was laughing and telling stories. Then I looked down and saw his shoes. I had never seen shoes like these in my entire life, so I decided to ask him about them. The following conversation documents how I learned about what I like to call Cali Comfort.

Me- What inspired you to wear those shoes?

Tim- I had boots on but I felt like I was trying too hard.

Me-Oh, makes sense. But what inspired you to wear these shoes?

Tim-They are actually called Sanuks, they have them in different styles.

Me-Really? Why did you decide to wear those shoes today?

Tim-Comfort. And they don't smell, I've had them for 2 years, and they don't smell. Its all about ventilation.

Me- They don't smell at all? That's weird.

Tim- Here, I'll show you (he puts a shoe in my face, and surprisingly, they don't smell)

Me- Weird.

Tim- Told you.

Me- Smile. Makes sense.

Tim- California meets Midwest.

Me- Loves it.

They may not be that aesthetically pleasing, and I will most likely never own a pair of Sanuks, but now I 'get it.' California is about comfort, and I love it. I love that it's about the 'feel,' and Tim's feet are thanking him everyday. Congrats to Tim.

Sex and the Small City

The three beautiful ladies pictured above are my best friends. We worked together, we went out together, we went shopping together, we gave eachother advice, we helped eachother through hard times, and good times. We danced, laughed, and were ridiculously crazy together. Imagine if Sex and the City were filmed not in New York, but in one of the smallest towns in the United States. It was fun, and I miss them. Anyways, that's all besides the point. I bring you this picture to show you how unique and inspiring their sense of style is.

I saw this picture, (I was not present for this particular evening), and I smiled with sadness. Immediately I emailed Cassandra, the one in the amazing turquoise dress and sexy shoes, "Wish I was there, and by the way, you have some fantastic pieces, but those shoes with that dress, it's my absolute favorite ensemble you have ever worn." Somehow, my best friend, had managed to find that dress, and those oh so sexy shoes in Michigan, where shopping is a very difficult process. And the best part about my best friend, she's going to hate me for this one, she is color blind. So congrats to Cassandra for picking out the perfect outfit to enjoy a night on the town, no matter how small it may have been, she pulled it off, and looked drop dead gorgeous while doing it!

What do you think?

Mellow Yellow

Who is that guy in the yellow tie? This is Matt. I work with Matt. Matt is quite amazing, especially when he wears this particular tie. It's yellow, and when Matt wears his yellow tie, there is a certain glow about him. He smiles differently, he walks with more confidence, he tells more jokes, and he just seems more mellow. Mellow Yellow.

I have never taken a liking to the color yellow, mostly because I do not wear it well, but since seeing Matt wear his yellow tie I felt inspired to research the color yellow to get a better understanding of what makes yellow so very mellow.

Things that are yellow:

- the Sun

- Post its

- Bananas

- Lemonade

- Taxis

- School Bus

- 75% of the pencils in the U.S. are yellow

- Yellow Ribbons are a sign of hope, usually tied around an oak tree

- Coldplay has a song called "Yellow," The Beatles also have a song called, "Yellow Submarine"

- And my favorite and sort of ridiculous fact I learned about the color yellow is that the comic book character Green Lantern was afraid of the color yellow.

Thank you Matt for inspiring me to open my mind to the happiest color in the spectrum.

What is something yellow that you love?

That Dress is So Summery!!!

While walking down Michigan Avenue one day I spotted this dress, and in my head a saying that I've heard a lot lately came to mind. "That dress is so summery!!!" Let's face it, it's summer, and the dresses are out. We are all searching for the perfect summer dress. I have found it! Complete with flowers, butterflies, and amazing colors, this dress is the definition of a summery dress. Love it! What do you think???
